American Airlines inherited a boatload of international flights with their 2013 merger with US Airways. With routes predominantly flown by their aging Airbus A330-300 fleet, as well as the now retired Boeing 767-200s, change was bound to happen. To keep up with the demand of the routes, the American flag carrier supplemented the A330s with the Boeing 767-300ER, which are now in the process of being phased out. Plenty of speculation was held amongst those who frequent PHL of whether the hub will house Boeing 777s, or just eventually start out fresh with a fleet of Boeing 787s to supplement the Airbus A330-200 fleet. In the late summer of 2019, American announced a plethora of changes to their PHL international routes, each one scheduled to receive a B787-8. The routes were listed to be a mixed bag of international and domestic routes, similar to what the B767-200 flew prior to its retirement: ZRH, AMS, MAN, ORD, and LAX. That's a total of at least 5 Boeing 787s operating from PHL on a daily basis. On January 7, 2020, the first and second Boeing 787s were re-positioned to PHL to commence the Boeing 787 era at PHL. The first (photographed above), substituting for the B757-200 route, American 1328 from Dallas Fort-Worth. The second is arriving after dark as American 2608 from Chicago O-Hare, the commencement of a new daily route. 2015 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
